The FA Cup really is the best cup competition
The FA Cup is an English competition engrossed in history and wrapped in cup magic. It is not called ‘The best cup competition’ for nothing.
Around the world millions watch the various rounds leading up to the final at the famous Wembley stadium. For my club the fourth round brought current top three Premier league side and near neighbours Tottenham to Vicarage Road. Match that with the game being covered by TV and played under lights this game had every thing to make it a game to watch and enjoy.
Tottenham fielded a very strong team, for me that shows not just respect for the cup itself but also for the opposition. This is something I feel quite strongly about and the north Londoner’s did not let any of the paying public down but fielding a youth team.
Most of my family are Spurs fans yet it seems they saw a Watford side run themselves into the ground to try and get a positive result. Alas it was not to be with Spurs winning by a single goal to nil. Watford huffed and puffed at the Spurs goal but just could not get that elusive goal.
I lost count how many times we hit the post or bar, especially in the second half but luck just fell short for us. Following the game newspapers and TV pundits gave Watford so much credit. The Tottenham manager had the good grace to say that his side had been very lucky to go through to the next round.
I love the FA cup and this tie just proved my point that if you treat the cup with respect you will make the game hold up it’s years and years of history. Everyone will win, fans, players TV Viewers alike and all because, as the rest of the footballing world says it’s ‘ The best cup competition in the world’. Win or lose, I love it.
