A fit Hargreaves has “still got something to offer England”

Owen Hargreaves marked his long-awaited return from injury last week with a goal in the Carling Cup for his new club Manchester City. And John Cross of the Daily Mirror feels if the former Manchester United midfielder can get back to full fitness he could still be very useful player for England.

“He played nearly an hour and he was absolutely rampaging through the midfield,” explains John of Hargreaves’ debut for Man City against Birmingham last week. “I still feel that if he can get back to his full fitness – Owen Hargreaves has still got something to offer for England.”

Of course, getting back to full fitness will be a big ask for Hargreaves given that this match was the Man City midfielder’s first competitive game for 10 months. And John believes he still has a long way to go to prove that he has fully recovered from injury. “If he can get his fitness back, and that is the big proviso, then he can get back to that [former high level].”
