“England now have an abundance of talent at right back”
Ever since Gary Neville hung up his boots and swapped his football strip for expensive suits, the England right back berth has pretty much been up for grabs. No one owns it like Gary did. A fact not lost on Life’s A Pitch panelist Tom Hopkinson of The People, who now sees a wealth of worthy candidates for the spot, including Tottenham man Kyle Walker.
“Walker has a lot of similarities with Glen Johnson,” says Tom. “Liverpool’s Martin Kelly will be an interesting one to look at as well – watching those two vie for the right back spot will be fascinating. Chris Smalling has also done very well there. All of a sudden, in a position that has been weak over the last few years, we’ve not got an abundance of talent.”
