“I don’t think Rodgers rates Reina that highly”
The Golden Gloves award, given to the goalkeeper with the most Premier League clean sheets in a season, used to have a permanent home at Pepe Reina’s house. The Spaniard was often heralded as being one of the world’s best goalkeepers. But as Liverpool’s fortunes have dipped in these past few seasons, so too has Reina’s authority between the sticks. The Sunday Telegraph’s Jason Burt believes his long-term form is such a concern at Anfield that Brendan Rodgers is planning to replace him in the summer.
“They’re going to look for a new No1,” Jason says. “I think Reina will go at the end of this season. I don’t think Rodgers really rates him that highly and he has looked for reasons to leave him out at times. Liverpool are looking at other options, but they’ll have to do that in the summer now. They certainly had a look at Jack Butland [before he was signed by Stoke].
“Reina is not been the player he was: he’s not been that convincing for the past couple of seasons, actually. I think last season wasn’t very good for him either.”
