Parker gives Spurs winning mentality
It takes a certain type of team to win the Premier League; they’ve got to be teeming with talent, doused in determination and as focused as a finely tuned telescope. And according to the Daily Express’ Ian Ridley, that’s exactly what Tottenham Hotspur have become since they added midfield boss-man Scott Parker to their ranks.
“Spurs certainly have the talent to win this title, there’s no doubt about that,” Ian says. “They probably need to strengthen defensively this window, and I think Harry [Redknapp] is aware of that.
“I asked Harry this very question on Sunday, and he said it’s very difficult to acquire that winning mentality, to turn the mentality of a club. He admitted that Spurs have been a flaky club down the years, and to turn them into winners of anything other than a cup is a very hard job.
“He thinks Scott Parker has brought a lot more to them in that respect and they are a lot tougher from that, and if he can keep Ledley [King] fit, that’s another thing. If they do bring in a player like [Christopher] Samba, who may not be a natural leader but leads by example, and there’s this kind of aura about him, that may make a difference.”
Parker will, of course, have the opportunity to prove his winning mentality this afternoon when Spurs goes up against title rivals Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in a crucial match for the Londoners.
