“Questions are being asked about Wenger and Arsenal”
What is it with Arsenal’s fragile players? Not so long ago, questioning Arsène Wenger’s methods would have been as ridiculous as casting doubt on Saint Stephen Fry’s position as a diamond-encrusted national treasure. But journalist and author Ian Ridley suggests a spate of long-term injuries indicate that the professor might just be losing his touch.
Take Jack Wilshere. Why has he spent at least two-thirds of his life in the treatment room? “It makes you wonder what’s going on behind the scenes,” says Ridley, who goes on to hint that it’s one of the reasons Robin van Persie is agitating to leave, having spent much of his Gunners career prior to last season hobbling around with a litany of muscle twangs and ligament tweaks.
“Van Persie has concerns about what’s going on with the medical side. Questions are being asked about Arsène Wenger and the club,” notes Ridley. Dark clouds are rumbling overhead – could Wenger be caught in a storm of his own making?
