Re-signing Drogba “would be a retrograde step for Chelsea”
Rumours are growing that Chelsea legend Didier Drogba isn’t loving life in China and that the Champions League hero fancies catching an early plane home from Shanghai. The combative Ivorian was spotted at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground this week, fuelling the not unreasonable suggestion that he might be eyeing up a shock return to west London. It couldn’t happen could it?
The Mail on Sunday’s Ian Ridley isn’t convinced a reunion would be in Chelsea’s best interests. “It all looks like it’s going belly up in Shanghai, Nicolas Anelka and Drogba look as if they’ll be lucky to get their money, the club’s in turmoil and so on. And he was back at Chelsea’s training ground, I believe, beaming.
“It would be a retrograde step for Chelsea,” he says. “They’ve moved on from that now. To bring him back to the club, the style of play would have to change again and that’s what they were trying to get away from.”
