“Spurs won’t have another March-April collapse”

Tottenham are still smarting at the way they blew a 10-point advantage over bitter rivals Arsenal last season – a capitulation that ended up costing them a place in the Champions League. This season, with 15 matches left to play they are four points better off than Arsène Wenger’s men, and hopes are beginning to be raised that this might finally be the season where Spurs finish ahead of their north London adversaries.

Martin Lipton of the Daily Mirror believes that André Villas-Boas’ sensible handling of his squad could prove to be the crucial difference this time around. ”Last season it wasn’t just that Arsenal came from behind, they also scored a lot of late goals to win matches too,” he says. “Spurs collapsed because he [Harry Redknapp] only had 13 players he trusted.

“Villas-Boas has rotated the squad much more this season, so I don’t think they’ll have that March-April collapse again. You never know with Spurs, but I don’t think they will. This makes Arsenal’s task – even though they’re closer behind this season – much, much harder.”

its not about melt down, it all boils down to your pending fixtures. you got it all wrong with your assumptions. some places are just difficult for some teams and if you have such places late in the season and you also loose a few players to injuries, even 15pts gap is not good enough.

We got 3 games in April that will be a bit tricky but two of them are at home.Fixture are very relevant but teams also melt down.In that bad run last season we had tricky games one after the other but we were still losing ‘winners’ in between and we definitely suffered some kind of a melt down, but you’re right about the fixtures.Lucky for spurs ALL our ‘hard’ games excluding Chelsea are at Home our final run in will be mid table teams that by then will be safe and we’ve played every one of the relegation bunch twice already except for Wigan.
