Swansea’s Sigurdsson: the perfect signing at the perfect time
As first seasons in the Premier League go, it’s all looking very good in the hood for Swansea City, and some shrewd work in the transfer window may have uncovered an Icelandic diamond in the form of Gylfi Sigurdsson. The Life’s A Pitch team comes over all giddy while discussing the new midfielder.
“Sigurdsson looks so composed for Swansea,” insists Martin Lipton of the Daily Mirror. “I saw him against Chelsea, and I really think the boy can play – he’s terrific.”
After a decent spell at Reading, and more recently under Markus Babbel at 1899 Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, Sigurdsson appears to have had absolutely no problem acclimatising to life in the Premier League, and he might have been just the tonic for Swansea. So says former footballer and journalist Adrian Clarke: “Swansea lacked a goal threat from midfield – you need someone who can break forward and score. Sigurdsson was the perfect signing at the perfect time.”
