“You can’t rule out automatic” promotion for Leicester
After last week’s impressive 2-0 victory against Southampton at St Mary’s, Nigel Pearson’s Leicester City go into Wednesday’s crucial clash against Middlesbrough with restored confidence after a disappointing first half of the season. And the Foxes now look on course for a promotion push, says Rory Smith of The Times.
“The win at Southampton was really significant,” says Rory. “Southampton have owned the first half of the Championship season. You look at Leicester now, and under Pearson they’ve got the players, they’ve got the budget and they’ve got the ambition.”
Leicester have been busy during the transfer window, and with the arrivals of Wes Morgan from Nottingham Forest and Ben Marshall from Stoke for £1million each in the last few days, Rory thinks they could even challenge the top two for automatic promotion. “A push for the play-offs is quite certain,” explains Rory. “And the way the Championship is, you can’t even rule out automatic [promotion].”
