The Big Question
Blackburn fans “are tired of being lied to”
As first management jobs go, Steve Kean must have felt honoured to take the reigns at Blackburn back in December 2010. Fast forward a year, and it’s not looking like it’ll be quite such a merry Christmas this year. The fans are unhappy, they’re leaking goals at the back – they only have Bolton’s woes to thank for a buffer at the foot of the table. The Life’s a Pitch team is on hand to poke through the wreckage with a muddy stick.
“There was a brief respite for Kean after Blackburn’s victory over Arsenal, but he’s had a pretty torrid time since he took over,” says Tom Hopkinson of The People. “He’s been summoned by the owner and dragged over to India pretty often, when he should really be at the training ground working to get things right.”
With rumblings from the stands, Kean’s mountain-to-climb is getting ever more massive, and Duncan White of the Sunday Telegraph suggests that he may have brought some of it on himself. “I think there would be a lot more sympathy for Kean if he hadn’t obscured the truth so much last season, when he told fans that everything was great and there were big signings around the corner. The fans could see with their own eyes that Blackburn were playing poorly – they got fed up with being lied to.”
“He’s always been a No. 2,” says Dave Kidd of The People. “I just don’t think he’s the man for that job.”
