Two Minute Warning
Stevens Davis, Naismith and Whittaker: Hit or miss?
It’s a tale of three Stevens, as Davis (pictured, left), Whittaker (middle) and Naismith (right) throw their complimentary Rangers dressing gowns in a skip and head south in search of Premier League glory. Norwich, Southampton and Everton are in the mix. The Life’s a Pitch panel joins the dots…
First up, David Walker of the Sunday Mirror addresses Steven Davis’ move to Southampton. “I think that could be a brilliant signing,” says David. “My only worry about anybody coming out of the SPL is the lack of really competitive games being played over a season and how sharp they are. But in terms of ability, age and being a top-quality pro, this is a major hit.”
Next, journalist and author Ian Ridley ponders how Steven Naismith will shape up at Everton. “It’s another very canny signing by David Moyes. Naismith is a versatile player, either out wide or as a tenacious advanced midfield player – he may even play alongside his former [Rangers] strike partner Jelavic. Moyes knows what he’s doing when he picks this type of player, and I think he’s a good fit for the squad.”
Finally, footballer-turned-journalist Adrian Clarke expresses himself regarding Steven Whittaker’s move to Norwich. “I think he’ll be a hit too,” Clarke says. “He’s a good player, he’s experienced and he’s been a regular everywhere he’s been. He’s not going to set the world on fire, but he’s a steady player.”
