Kaka and Tevez to Spurs? – “No chance”

With an increasing breeze flowing through the transfer window, it’s only a matter of time before the thing bursts open. Rumours are already bouncing around about Carlos Tevez and Kaka ending their prospective Man City and Real Madrid nightmares, and settling into Harry Redknapp’s warm Tottenham bosom. Can this be right? The Life’s A Pitch panel discuss.

“No chance,” begins Duncan White of the Sunday Telegraph. “Tottenham tried to sign [Lassana] Diarra from Real Madrid in the summer, and that fell through because of wage demands, so the idea that they’re going to meet the wage demands of someone like Tevez is unrealistic.”

Plus, they’d presumably have to sell some players first, suggests Jason Burt of the Telegraph: ”[Daniel] Levy’s made it clear that they’ve got to get a certain number of players out before they buy. [Roman] Pavlyuchenko is key in this. If they can get him and [Sebastien] Bassong out they can make some moves in the market.”

A certain England striker might also be scrawled in the ‘out’ column in one of Redknapp’s moleskin notebooks. “[Jermain] Defoe should move on,” insists John Cross of the Daily Mirror. “He’s reached the point where he’s nowhere close to being a guaranteed starter.”

Further talk turns to the transfer hopes for Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle.
