Manchester City ready to raid Napoli’s riches
It’s not long before the transfer window creaks open and fans across the land are wondering who’s going to jump through. Having impressed in their Champions League duel with Manchester City, the Life’s A Pitch panel debates whether Napoli’s stars will be the first to leap, and whether it’ll be into Roberto Mancini’s grateful arms.
Striker Edinson Cavani is made for English football, says the Daily Mirror’s John Cross. ”He looks elegant and his goals record speaks for itself. There are certain players you can imagine in the Premier League, and he’s one.” If they weren’t aware of him before their torrid Champions League experience, Manchester City certainly are now, and they’re one of the few clubs with enough cash to lure him away from Naples. “It’s the way of the world – you play well against Man City, and you immediately get yourself a move there the next summer.”
Ian Ridley of the Daily Express agrees that Man City are Cavani and fellow forward Ezequiel Lavezzi’s most likely destination. “I thought City would rip Napoli apart, but they looked like a really good side. Maybe they [the Napoli players] were all playing for a move because they know that’s where the money is.”
But The People’s Janine Self thinks Roberto Mancini will have to what until the summer to get his mitts on either of the South American starlets. “I’d imagine they’d all like to stick around while they’re flying high in the Champions League.” After all, as Janine explains, “these are big-game players”, and will want to be plying their trade at the highest level.
The panel also debates and dissects the rest of the rumours swirling around the world of football, including the feeding frenzy that may soon surround Borussia Dortmund’s Mario Goetze, with Arsenal eager to drag him to London, and a possible move for Tottenham’s Jermain Defoe to QPR.
