QPR and Everton getting busy in transfer window’s final days

In what has to go down as the tamest transfer window in recent times, it looks like the window will slam shut without any tantalising deals going through. So, thank goodness for QPR and Everton, who are bucking the trend and trying to bring in some new faces for the second half of the season.

With QPR reportedly interested in Tottenham’s Steven Pienaar and Sebastien Bassong, The People’s Janine Self expects the west Londoners to be busy in the next couple of days. “I think Pienaar would be a great signing,” she says. “Bassong, you think, well… But then again he’s a Premier League footballer and Mark Hughes needs bodies in, he needs Premier League experience. And I would imagine they [QPR] would be very busy [before the window shuts].”

The QPR boss has also been looking abroad, explains The Times’ Rory Smith, with news of another signing just announced. “Senegalese midfielder Samba Diakite who, currently with Nancy, will join QPR on loan,” Rory explains.

Meanwhile, at Everton, David Moyes is working his Scottish connections to seal a deal with Rangers for in-form striker Nikica Jelavic. Something Championship West Ham have so far failed to do. “The belief is that he [Jelavic] will turn up at Everton, subject to medical, for about £5/5.5milllion,” says David.

The panel also looks at Chelsea’s apparent interest in Real Madrid’s Pepe and Arsenal’s Arsène Wenger’s reluctance to “spend.
