Tottenham have Krul firmly in their sights for summer move
Newcastle’s Tim Krul and Swansea’s Michel Vorm have quickly become recognised as two of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers this season. Great news for fans of both teams. Unless, of course, their impressive form encourages other clubs to try to sign them. Vorm has been linked with Manchester United, but the move more likely to happen, according to the Life’s A Pitch team, is Krul to Tottenham in the summer.
“I think that Tim Krul is the real deal,” explains the Daily Mirror’s John Cross. ”He’s really found his feet at Newcastle. “Spurs have got their eyes on Tim Krul, particularly with Brad Friedel at the age [40] he is now, he [Friedel] is on a two-year contract, of course. I think that Tim Krul is definitely in Tottenham’s long-term sights.”
The Daily Express’ Ian Ridley agrees. ”Krul is one that’s come on an awful lot and Tottenham do need a keeper,” he says of the Newcastle keeper. “I’m surprised they’ve got this season out of Brad Friedel, because he did look finished at certain times at Villa last season. [A move is likely] in the summer though, not now. I don’t think Harry [Redknapp] would want to disturb Brad Friedel, given what he’s getting out of him at the moment.’
Not everyone believes it’s time to replace 40-year-old Friedel, though. Former Arsenal player and journalist Adrian Clarke reckons he can maintain this level of form for a while yet. ”Brad Friedel has hardly put a foot wrong this season,” he says. “I’ve been really impressed with him. There are no signs of him slowing down.”
One other piece of transfer news involving Spurs has been their apparent quoting of £8million to Bolton for Mexican misfit Giovani dos Santos. ”If Tottenham could get £8million for Dos Santos, Daniel Levy would drive him up there himself and deliver him to the door gift wrapped,” claims Ian. “They’re not going to get anywhere near that.”
Also up for discussion is QPR’s supposed move for Mauro Zarate and whether Scott Dann is already about to leave Blackburn.
